Apple billing system gets 30% of subscription revenue
Netflix Inc., three years after removing Apple Inc.’s disputed app purchase system from its main app, has restored it with its new video game offering.
For Apple devices, Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3, Shooting Hoops, Teeter Up, and Card Blast are all accessible.
Games are launched on the App Store individually according to the rules
The decision to let consumers to subscribe to Netflix, including games and streaming, using Apple’s payment system signals a reduction in tensions between the two companies, which peaked in 2018 when Netflix stopped allowing users to subscribe using Apple’s service.
While certain games allow players to purchase a full Netflix membership through Apple, the Netflix app as a whole still requires users to register elsewhere to watch.
It’s unclear whether Netflix wants to bring in-app purchases back to its main app in the future, or whether gaming subscriptions would be transferred to the main service.
